James Irwin
You Are Too Late at the Bottom of the World

You Are Too Late at the Bottom of the World is from a series of fantastical tales about semi-ridiculous explorers. This is the journal of Robert Falcon Scott of England who, with his entire crew, died on the way home from the South Pole.
James Irwin writes songs, poems, and stories. He is a member of the bands my people sleeping and The Coal Choir, and is working on a solo album under the name mamatschi, as well as a book of poems titled I Want This Job Naming Colours.
EXCERPT
We started off youngly at it -- we watched and recorded everything, letting the sea talk to the sky, blending in with the swells. We observed new fish, new monsters, many of the sexless, rock-like beasts. On the third morning we spotted a pair of dead, young girls with braids down to their knees on a spent raft in the fogs off the French coast. There were other singular occurances.

EXCERPT
[day one]
mummed the concrete rubble to the lake Ontario,
wear me down to my girders
the lake
the half-naked lake
slipping off its jersey,
started in with its cat's tongue
